Extension Ladders

Extension ladders in DIY, trade, and industrial grades — aluminium and fibreglass, 2-section and 3-section, from 3m to 15m extended length, all rated to EN 131.

Choosing the right extension ladder comes down to three numbers: the height you need to reach, the angle you’ll be setting it at, and the load rating you need. The 4-to-1 rule sets the base position — 1m out from the wall for every 4m of height — and the ladder must extend at least 1m above any access point you’re stepping onto. For a standard 2-storey UK house with gutters at 5m to 6m, a triple extension ladder reaching 6m to 7m covers the job with room for the correct overhang. For anything above that, or where you need both hands free for extended periods, a scaffold tower is the more appropriate tool.

Fibreglass extension ladders are mandatory near live electrical equipment — aluminium conducts electricity. For everything else, aluminium trade ladders are lighter and more practical for daily use.
