What size ladder do you need and what type of ladder do you need?
We answer those questions for you!
How do you work out what size extension ladder you’ll need?
Here at ladders and Access we get asked this question all the time!
How do you figure out what size ladder you’ll need to do your work, and what is the correct angle to have your ladder at?
Setting your ladder at the correct angle
So first things first, let’s get you setting your ladder at the correct angle. This angle a ladder should be used at is approximately 75 degrees, but there’s a simple way for you to work this out.
The simple rule is for every 4 feet you go up, you bring the ladder out 1 foot.
So for example, the general height of a two story house (up to the eves) will be 4.7m, which equates to 15”5. For this height you would bring you ladder out 3 feet 10¼ inches to be exact!
Once you get the correct angle of the ladders sorted you can begin to use your ladder safely; and work out what size ladder will get you to what working height you need.
Cleaning the Gutters
The most often question we get asked is “what size ladder do I need to clean my gutters, or reach the roof of my house!”
We have decided to give you some help in figuring this out:
For an average two story house in the UK, the normal height to the eves will be 4.7m, so you would need an extension ladder that is between 6.5m-8m long.
This could be either a double or triple extension ladder, or even a combination ladder, which can be used as a step ladder as well!
The benefits of a triple extension ladder is it will be a lot smaller when closed down, meaning storing it in your shed or garage will be a lot easier!
